The Aidemir monastery “Holy Mother’s Shroud” is situated 2-3km to the west of the town of Aidemir on the way to the town of Rousse.
The Aidemir monastery was built in 1996, while the church’s walls were painted in 2001 by 4 students as their graduation task. The ceiling is soon to be painted by Romanian masters, too. Apart from paintings of well-known saints, the portraits of 12 Durostorum saints (i.e. from the former town of Durostorum, present-day Silistra) out of 23 local canonized saints, as well as the relics of one of these, St. Tezii, can be seen in the church of the Aidemir monastery. These paintings make “Holy Mother’s Shroud” a unique church for the territory of Bulgaria. Another particularity of the church is its collection of glass jars from all over the world. The sealed jars are of different size and contain beautifully made crucifixions inside them. It is believed that the masterly work of all the details and elements inside the jars is achieved with the help of threads and, of course, a lot of patience.
