The Popovi Livadi area spreads in the southern ridge of the Pirin Mountain at 1,412m. above sea level. The area is not far away from the town of Gotse Delchev, as the distance from the Popovi Livadi chalet to the town is 16km down an asphalt road. Apart from the chalet, a villa named Brezite also offers accommodation to tourists.
Popovi Livadi is used as a starting point for hikes in the Pirin Mountain. From here, following signed or unsigned paths, one can get to the Orelyak peak (2099m – 2 hours), Sveshnik peak (1975m – 2hours down an unsigned path), and the chalets of Malina (5 hours) and Pirin (7 hours).
In the eastern part of Popovi Livadi, one can see an abandoned Greek church that served the religious needs of a settlement of Greek shepherds in the late 19th - early 20th century. The settlement consisted of about 150 huts and some 660 inhabitants, who came here with their flocks during the summer. 6km to the west of Popovi Livadi, a famous Bulgarian revolutionary, Yane Sandanski, who fought for the liberation of Macedonia’s lands from Turkish rule was killed on the 23rd of April, 1915.
For about 20 years now, Popovi Livadi has hosted the annual commemoration of the Ilinden-Preobrazhenie uprising in early August. The gathering is attended by many people from the whole region as well as from the wider country.
