Settlements: Rakovski

The town of Rakovski is situated 25km to the northeast of Plovdiv. It represents the merger of several villages into a town in 1966. A Neolithic residential hillock has been found in the town’s surroundings. There, excavations have discovered a number of stone instruments of labour. The town also preserves a lot of traces of Roman times – a road, coins and other items.
15km to the southwest of Rakovski, one can visit the village of Skutare. The village is famous for its St Iliya church, built in 1879. The church has valuable wall paintings and icons, and is declared a monument of culture.
