Mountain Tourism: Studenets
The Studenets chalet is situated in the so-called Bukova mountain area in the Pamporovo ski resort. It lies to the north of Smolyan and can be reached down an asphalt road. The chalet is built at 1669m above sea level and has the capacity of 160 beds. The chalet is supplied with water and electricity, and has a common dining hall, a restaurant and a bar. During the winter season, one can borrow ski equipment, too.
The chalet was constructed in 1936-1937 upon the initiative of tourists from the town of Chepelare. In 1946 it was set on fire, but was restored a year later. One can see the Snezhanka (Snow White) peak with its TV tower just in front of the Studenets chalet. The Murgavets peak rises to the southeast. There are three ski lifts next to the chalet, leading to Snezhanka, the bus station, and the Ardashla area, respectively. From here, one can walk to the famous Smolyan lakes (about 2 hours), the Momchil Yunak chalet (4 hours), the Rozhen area (2 hours), Smolyan (3 hours), Snezhanka (1 hour), and Murgavets (1 hour).
