Mountain Tourism: Zabardo

Zabardo is a small Rhodopi village, situated some 13km away from the town of Chepelare in the district of Smolyan. It lies at 1620m. above sea level, in the valley of the Zaburdska river. There are traces of a settlement’s existence even before Bulgaria’s Ottoman rule.
The main tourist sight in the area is the so-called Chudnite Mostove (Bridges of Wonder) also popular as Skalnite Mostove (Rock Bridges) that can be reached on foot from Zabardo. The natural phenomenon, situated 4km away from the village, represents two marble rock bridges. The upper bridge has the impressive width of 20m and hangs over an abyss deep 43m. The bridge is a part of a mountain path that connects the village of Zabardo with the village of Orehovo. The second bridge lies 200m away from the first one. It represents a tunnel of total length of 60m. Close to the second bridge, one can see the entrance of the Ledenata Cave (Ice Cave), which always has ice inside, regardless of the season. There are two mountain chalets close to the natural phenomena where tourists can spent the night. The older chalet was built in the 30es of last century. The newer one lies just 1km away from the old one and offers modern tourist facilities.
