Mountain Tourism: Zlatnite Mostove

The ski centre of Zlatnite Mostove (Golden Bridges) lies in the northwest slopes of the Vitosha mountain. In old times this was a place where gold was washed out of the sands, hence the name of the area. A cabin tow-lift takes skiers and tourists up from the Knyazhevo quarter of Sofia to the Golyamoto Kopito peak (1,350m.) and the Kopitoto hotel-restaurant. The terrace of the hotel reveals a beautiful view over the city of Sofia and the Balkan mountain while a convenient asphalt road connects the hotel with the main road to Sofia.
There are several restaurants nearby the stone river of Zlatnite Mostove. Right above Zlatnite Mostove, one can use the Konyarnika-Vetrovala ski base, which has a stationary ski tow-lift, and two smaller tugs. Several places of accommodation offer good conditions for a longer stay during the winter. Yet the lack of entertainment and sports facilities prevents the area from being exploited to the best of its potential during other seasons.
Zlatnite Mostove is also a starting point to the Cherni Vrah Peak (about 3 hours). This route passes through one of the oldest and most beautiful chalets in Vitosha - Kumata (1 hour).
