A new ski centre will rise close to the southwestern Bulgarian city of Blagoevgrad, to the joy of the numerous winter sport lovers in the town.
The city's mayor Lazar Prichkapov will turn Monday the first sod of the ski centre that will be located in the "Kartala" area, about twenty kilometres away from Blagoevgrad.
The centre would include over 30 kilometres of ski tracks, several hotels with over 1,500 beds in total, ski lifts and other facilities.
In order for the resort to function, however, the municipality would have to cough up about EUR 600,000 for improving the water supply and sewage system. The investment would be well worth, it, locals believe, though, as once the resort gets up and running it would quick turn into a major tourist destination.
