German Tourists Grow Colder to BulgariaSource: Sofia News Agency (www.novinite.com) Published Date: 13 Sep 2005
Bulgaria boasted a fresh growth in tourism revenues for the first half of 2005, with the number of German tourists alone recording a fall.
Bulgaria pocketed EUR 705 M of revenues from international tourism for the first six months of the year, when 2,7 million foreign tourists visited it, said Donka Sokolova, President of the Bulgarian Association of Travel Agents. She cited data of the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture.
The number of British tourists who came to Bulgaria notched a growth of 39%, Danish - 34%, French - 28%, Russian - 13%. The Germans, traditional holiday-makers at the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, marked a decrease of 3,4% in July alone.
In the words of Sokolova the economic stagnation in Bulgaria has driven German tourists away.
Tour operators singled out construction works in the major Black sea resorts by the very beginning of the summer season among the reasons that have turned tourists away from the country.
