New Outage Leaves Bulgaria's Sunny Beach without PowerSource: Sofia News Agency (www.novinite.com) Published Date: 13 Aug 2010
Bulgaria's largest resort – Sunny Beach on the Black Sea coast – might see scheduled restrictions of its electricity supply as a result of the overdevelopment of the region.
This has been announced by Ivan Yotov, Director of Bulgaria's Electricity System Operator, a government company in charge of operational planning and control of the country's electricity supply.
Speaking about the recent power outage along Bulgaria's Southern Black Sea coast which left Sunny Beach and a number of other resorts without electricity for almost two days, Yotov explained the excessive consumption had caused the grid to crumble.
For the same reason, the Sunny Beach resort and the town of Pomorie saw a power outage for half an hour Thursday night, he said, making it clear that similar outages are likely in the future as well.
The outage occurred shortly after 8 pm, when most tourists in the packed complexes were having dinner.
The EVN power utility also announced that the highly increased consumption of electricity in the area of Sunny Beach led to the outage.
