Sofia Stays Bulgaria's Most Expensive City, Seaside Resorts Close InSource: Sofia News Agency (www.novinite.com) Published Date: 23 Apr 2007
Capital Sofia remains the most expensive city in Bulgaria, but is closely followed by Black Sea port and resort cities Varna and Burgas, data from a survey published by think-tank Industry Watch showed on Sunday.
Goods and services in Varna are only 3,3% cheaper than in the capital and the figure for Burgas is 7%, data from the think-tank's quarterly Biggest Cities Review.
The country's fourth most expensive urban area is Haskovo in southeastern Bulgaria, where both incomes and prices are driven higher by the high volume of trade with Turkey, but also remittances from local residents working abroad.
Bulgaria's second-largest city, Plovdiv, is fifth in the rankings, followed by Stara Zagora, Veliko Tarnovo and Rousse.
Pleven remains the cheapest of Bulgaria's big towns, with goods and services costing 21,5% less than in Sofia.
