Spanish developers Ferry Group said on Thursday they received the permit to begin build their golf course and country club in Katina near Bulgarian capital Sofia.
The group plans to begin construction work in the near future and complete it within 18 months.
The Katina Golf Resort is the first country club in Bulgaria to be recognized as a model of sustainable development by the European Commission, the group's chief executive Manuel Ferry Sanchez said.
"Our mission is to develop with an eye on the future, making an effort to preserve the existing environment," he added.
"This project is equally important for the development of tourism in Bulgaria and for the overall development of the Katina area," Sofia's chief architect Petar Dikov said.
Ferry Group hopes the 400,000 square meters country club, which will cost more than EUR 400 M to build, will draw tourists from Spain and other EU countries when it is completed.
